Personally I find there's nowt better than something that was written at the time, it gives a different view on things compared to stuff you find written retrospectively on the internet and you can often pick up useful nuggets of information.
For instance the BTCC books I've got from the super touring era give reviews of every race, plus lap times and stuff, technical data and a bit of background to the teams and drivers that you simply can't find on the internet. It's not essential but it just helps make the carsets that bit more true to life.
Hmmm... well I'm not sure there will be a Volvo estate. I might have to use a bit of artistic licence and make it a saloon. The problem is that there are three distinct shapes, the saloon (Ford, Vauxhall, BMW etc), the hatchback (Renault) and the estate (Volvo). Because there was never a saloon version of the Laguna, it makes more sense (to me at least) to have a saloon and hatchback shape and have the Volvo as a saloon. But I haven't started drawing them yet so we shall see...
Cheers! After a slow start, this project is starting to move along now. I'm just about to start painting the Mercs. Couldn't say how long this whole carset will take but I hope it'll be finished sometime in February.
This is an absolutely amazing result! The solution for the front end of the carset is very good, it makes the shape look more original and still works with the bitmap. It's great to see someone else working on GT-cars and it could give me also some new motivation! Please keep us informed!!
I've painted the AMG Mercs now, going to do the Persson versions soon and then I'll post a few previews. It's going a lot quicker than I expected at the moment to be honest! Mind you, the Porsches have a pretty complicated looking livery so that might take a while...
