If this "shark fin" turns out to be a success, next year half of the teams will look like this
Just take the last year's front wing bridge of McLaren as an example. How many teams are using it now? Even Ferrari have taken something from this concept.
But there had been also opposite examples - Remember Williams?
I wish DC to take some chaquered flags with this funny thing
Looks like a totally different concept... a lot of the other teams go for a very sleek, downward engine cover, and Red Bull are trying this out... however, next year's cars could be a totally different issue, because aerodynamics might look different and simpler next year, at least that's what was discussed for a while, as far as I recall... like doing away with the winglets and stuff.
By the way, there were McLaren-style "viking horns" on Wurz' Honda, too.
Although the fin on the RB4 now seems to reach even farther back than the McLaren thing... nice similarity though. Although obviously Newey wasn't at McLaren when they did this.
The idea behind it is to try to smooth out the airflow going to the rear wing so the wing works more efficiently, a bit like McLaren's "Viking horns" that other teams copied last season. Hopefully an added spin-off will be that it means the air coming off the rear wing may be a bit less turbulent and encourage overtaking, but then again, probably not...
