WTCC car set

Post by Greyhead »

Inspired by V12-Power's sports prototype carset, I've decided I'd like to attempt a World Touring Cars carset along similar lines. Only problem is I haven't got a clue how to go about creating the car shape for it. I'd like it to be a BMW or Alfa (i.e. a saloon) for car 1 and a SEAT for car 2. Don't suppose anyone fancies a go at making it? Or giving me some tips on how to do it myself?

I'd like to give it a shot, but give me some time.
It's best you based your bitmaps also on Fridtjof's.

Thanks DJS. I'll have a bash at it myself as well, basically just to see if I can. My only other experience of making a car shape was a vain attempt to make a Brabham BT44, which looked vaguely liked it was supposed to, if you squinted hard enough. And used your imagination. And were blind.

Well I made an attempt once with a DTM Audi... I still have some screenshots on my server, here they are:Image

I think when you change some things it could look much better than my try does, but it's not an easy issue. But I like your idea very much!

Ah, so touring cars have been attempted... Not a bad try V12-power.

Basically the only problem I have is time. I'm sure most of you know how difficult it is to juggle GP2 and real life. I'm still working on GP2 and Champ Car carsets as well, much to my fiancee's annoyance! But hopefully I can knock something together.

If you want I could send you what I got. I think it could be made much better, but maybe you can draw some conclusions from it. (Just PM me your email-adress then)

The carshape in the screenshots is too wide, this resulted out of the display problems with my laptop... the picture is displayed a bit stretched, so it looks more realistic in the game than on screenshots...

And time is a real problem. I would love to make some more stuff for GP2, but time doesn't allow it. A JGTC-carset would be fun, too...

As far as I know there was once a Ford Focus carshape, but now that gprix2.com is closed I guess it isn't available anymore. Would have maybe matched nice with the Seat.

Maybe a tip: In my sportscar-carshape there is one part that disappears sometimes in the game, it's the part where the rear wheels are. But I decided to include it, because the graphics of the rear wheel are better then (more space in the bitmap to paint it) and because there would be no nice transition between the 2 parts when I leave out the rear wheel part (in the carshape). Hope you get it somehow. On the DTM-carshape I didn't do so, just look at the rear wheel. It doesn't look that good. And if the car hadn't only one colour, there would be some problems with the livery as well (it would be stretched and compressed around the rear wheel and would look simple ugly).

I think I've got the Focus shape somewhere V12. God knows where though!

Your sportscar shape seems a pretty solid base from which to start, as you rightly say the distortions that result from changing the car shape are a pain but you seem to have got around that in your sportscar car shape.

Quick question: why do bits of the car shape I'm making disappear and flicker in the game, and how do you solve it?

I don't know why and I don't know a solution for it. I guess we have to live with it, but if someone would find a solution it would be great of course!

The only solution would be to exclude these parts, but it's not exactly brilliant as well.

Well my work on it has stopped for a while, until I finish off GP2-2006, but once that's out of the way I'm going to have a proper go at it.

V12-Power: "A JGTC-carset would be fun, too..."

i meant to reply to this before but kept forgetting. what's JGTC? Presumably the TC stands for touring cars but I've no idea about the JG. Sorry for my idiocy!

Oh yeah, I understand now. The one that races on the same bill as Formula Nippon, right? I thought it was called the All-Japan Super GT Championship but I do vaguely recall it changing its name.
