Fictional Imola 2019 (F1 Tests - 2020 Adverts)

Post by MaxX »

Because I want to have a perfect 2020 experience (thanks to the great 2019er tracks) I update not patched tracks for that cause. We don`t have a current Imola Track for GP2, so I made two versions.

The 2018er version uses John Edward`s great fictional Imola back from 1998, with a layout great fun to drive and the 2020 adverts placed where I found them looking best. Create a 2019-folder within the sanjmre-folder and put the jams there.

The 2019er version uses Andreas Schulz`s awesome 2004 Imola and I tried to keep it as realistic as possible, but I didn`t make it a 1:1 version. (for instance the liqui moli house or some banner placements in other zones). Create a 2019-folder within the imol2004-folder and put the jams there.

I used the curbs from Monza 2019 track by Roberto Remedio and Antonio Pessoa. They are not the ones used in Imola, but look much better than the white ones.

As usual no official release, I just want to share this with the remaining GP2-Fans. For my point of view it does very well in a 2020 version of gp2. So if you want to take it as base for another version, feel free to do so. Full credits to the original authors of the tracks.

It would be great if someone could fix the green color palette and change the last track section of Andreas` version, so we could have a far more realistic Imola circuit to race.

No. It's the following:

2018 is based on a fictional track made by John Edwards in 1998. He predicted/guessed that the last chicane would be ditched in the future, so the final sector is like today's Imola real-life track. The sectors 1 and 2 are not (but almost).

2019 is based on a Imola track with the 1995-2006 layout, made by Andreas Schulz in 2004.

I think Fernando Alonso should contact John Edwards and ask him how did he guess that.

Thanks for this update...We should send this version to Herrmann Tilke: the track and the racing would be better without the Villeneuve chicane too. By the way it looks like Imola and Portimao are coming back for this year...

I don't know how could the Imola owners solve the thing.

The wall that killed Ratzenberg is still there and one would have to cut the hill to remove it. Eventually removing those houses. Yet, it would be like "turn 3" of Red Bull Ring, which can cause accidents if someone gets to the inside and hit someone ahead.
I know that speeds would be slower as cars would be getting out of a chicane instead of coming full speed since the start/finish line, but still.

The other option would be to make it a straight line from Tamburello chicane exit to Tosa, but you would need to build a bridge.
Both would be feasible if one was building a highway/motorway. I don't think anyone in Italy is considering such an expense right now.

Yes, SNQQPY.DOG and John Edwards where geniuses to guess that. Also Tim de Klein guessed it with his fictional 1994 Imola version, but had the "classic" Tamburello and so I didn`t go for this version.

Yes, the Layout of John Edwards is hardly possible to build, a possible Layout might be to flatten Variante Villeneuve and go closer to the walls. Due to Tamburello slowing down this could be also achieve safety needs:

Or just make it similar to the 1994 layout. But most likely, I think they won`t go for this. As ismael statet, it would add risks. That`s our great advantage in GP2, we can have anything
