Fictional Zeltweg 2020

I really like the classic Österreichring-Layout from the 80ies and Tom Kost`s version of the old Österreiching (http://grandprix2.de/Strecke2/tracks_Austria.htm) is awesome.

So I decided to adapt the adverts to make it look more like a current track.

I won`t make it an official release (don`t bother for the copyright stuff), but if you like it, feel free to use or adapt it. You need Tom`s version as well to make it work. At least the gamejams folder called oestjams should be there, there you copy the 2020 folder and jams within it.

So from a "track shape" point of view this is the same track as F1 drove in the 1986 Austria GP?

I always get confused with the different names for the tracks in Austria.

I think the philosophy of the RacingCircuits.Info site works good.

They show the different versions according to the years they worked. If we simplify this (not caring about corner name changes and remeasurings), we could say that the current track version is "Zeltweg 1996-today". So, this new version by MaxX is "Fictional 2020 Zeltweg 1977-87".

The name of this track? Terrible! :D It's Osterreichrring, Zeltweg, Spielberg, A1-Ring, Red Bull Ring. The RacingCircuits created three entries all for the same article https://www.racingcircuits.info/europe/austria/ and they did not include the two geographical references. We should call it Red Bull Ring, though...

Yes, they should have never called the Zeltweg in the 70ies and 80ies after switching to the location in Spielberg. It is really confusing. Also relabeling the same circuit four times doesn`t make it easy. As for myself I consider the ultra-fast and great layout Zeltweg and the slower but still nice one Spielberg. :D I just love the high speed curves in this one, must have been an incredible feeling driving there. Too bad it is not possible due to security to have such stuff in modern F1.

Just to be on the safe copyright side, I don`t consider it my version, it`s Thomas Kost`s track with just some adverts switched :)

I am driving this track in my 1984 season and it is amazing.... The flow and speed of it is so fantastic. I had no problems developing a rhythm and getting a good feel for it.

I am running front wing = 8, rear wing = 3. I am thinking it may be necessary to have the car a little stiff so it reacts quickly in the right, left, right chicane at the very beginning.

During the pandemic, I started an updating of Thomas Kost's version of 1977-87 Österreichring/Zeltweg/Spielberg. The same track layout, the same cc-line, basically the same scenery and buildings, sponsors... But my version is mostly with revised track heights, and some ribbons reworked, and few other improvements in minor sceneries.
However, I did it into my Virtual Machine (VM) Windows98, using track editor, GP2, and etc.
I never managed to get that track out of the VM... This is the reason I never released it.

I like a lot MaxX version with 2020 F1 adverts, congrats! =D>

About the name, I used to call the Austrian F1 track, since 1997, as "Zeltweg-Spielberg", as an allusion to Spa-Francorchamps, which uses composed names. And the logic are the same: the Belgian circuit is placed near the village of Spa and near the village of Francorchamps as well. So, uses both names. The Austrian circuit could be named using the same reasons.

Antonio that's awesome. I would love to see it. I especially like when you do some of the older f1 tracks since I drive the real seasons with the real tracks. Once I get done making more of the icr2 tracks that I want, I will try and learn how to make gp2 tracks like you all. It takes me about 6 months to build a track now.

Yes, the track feels extremly smooth and just makes fun. Even after not playing GP2 for some time it doesn`t take much time to get competitive again there :D Tom did a great job there

Thank you very much Antonio. Would be great to have a revision by you as well. Making a great track even better sounds like an awesome plan

The naming "Zeltweg-Spielberg" makes sense and avoids confusion. Good idea to go for that.
