Fictional Zeltweg 2020

Post by MaxX »

I really like the classic Österreichring-Layout from the 80ies and Tom Kost`s version of the old Österreiching (http://grandprix2.de/Strecke2/tracks_Austria.htm) is awesome.

So I decided to adapt the adverts to make it look more like a current track.

I won`t make it an official release (don`t bother for the copyright stuff), but if you like it, feel free to use or adapt it. You need Tom`s version as well to make it work. At least the gamejams folder called oestjams should be there, there you copy the 2020 folder and jams within it.

So from a "track shape" point of view this is the same track as F1 drove in the 1986 Austria GP?

I always get confused with the different names for the tracks in Austria.

I think the philosophy of the RacingCircuits.Info site works good.

They show the different versions according to the years they worked. If we simplify this (not caring about corner name changes and remeasurings), we could say that the current track version is "Zeltweg 1996-today". So, this new version by MaxX is "Fictional 2020 Zeltweg 1977-87".

The name of this track? Terrible! :D It's Osterreichrring, Zeltweg, Spielberg, A1-Ring, Red Bull Ring. The RacingCircuits created three entries all for the same article https://www.racingcircuits.info/europe/austria/ and they did not include the two geographical references. We should call it Red Bull Ring, though...

Yes, they should have never called the Zeltweg in the 70ies and 80ies after switching to the location in Spielberg. It is really confusing. Also relabeling the same circuit four times doesn`t make it easy. As for myself I consider the ultra-fast and great layout Zeltweg and the slower but still nice one Spielberg. :D I just love the high speed curves in this one, must have been an incredible feeling driving there. Too bad it is not possible due to security to have such stuff in modern F1.

Just to be on the safe copyright side, I don`t consider it my version, it`s Thomas Kost`s track with just some adverts switched :)
