When I was a kid my father saw me playing GP2 and was complaining because the tyres were not moving in the cockpit...now you have solved that problem! :D

I thought it was just a program to run the game without DOS but it´s way much more and there is more to come it seems. Together with the upcoming revised editor from rremedio it makes for a great start to 2025!

Thank you for making this available!

Had the video from Ted Meat yesterday in my youtube recommendations and it hits me like a hammer.

That is a great start in 2025 regarding one of my favorite games which i played since my childhood.

Even it is an early alpha, the results are quite impressive yet in my opinion.

The funny thing is: as german i have only the german version and i had to look for the international/english one and while testing i found out, it seems there are some differences in those versions. In the english version, the engine sound and even the skidding sound sounds quite different to the german one. Or is this an effect from x86GP2?

My wishlist at the moment for x86GP2 is small and more from the technical point of view:

* Support for other versions/german version
* Support for custom tracks
* Option for specific screen resolutions (alternatively there are tools like "Sizer")
* Whole race replay with option to save it

So a lot of people don't know this- but F1 cars from our era would not need to have the clutch pressed during a upshift or downshift. They would have used straight cut gears with a dogbox. Clutch would only need to be used for starts when going from a stop. Leaving the pits, at race start. Times like that. It's different in a street car.

A few questions about this mod which I really love so far:
Did it change the car physics? It seems to drive so easy and it seems like the curbs are way more forgiving. I really can attack them agressively.
Did the mod change the strength of the AI? And is it build with having david coulthard replaced by A senna? Coulthard just took the pool in a race I did in Brazil. :o

The physics and AI should be the same. Old replays work and they are physic-replays so they shouldn't work if the physics were different.

Having said that it is suspiciously easy to drive! But imo it doesn't feel different. It's a very odd feeling. It's the same old game, but somehow you're just way more connected to the car, you can feel how the limit gets closer and closer and then when you're on the limit you have way more fidelity in steering, brake and especially under acceleration. Also your brain gets more visual cue due widescreen but I don't know if this is in any way a significant factor.

But I don't know if the stuff above explains it all. It also feels like the physics themselves have a higher fidelity. Like in a more modern sim. This might just be my imagination though.

It was also interesting to try out my "Season of PAIN" Coloni with a bad grip value. It was exactly similarly horrific, unstable and no grip. But again, still easier, since you all the time had an idea what the car was actually doing.

Perhaps DOSBox has been causing some input lag or something similar, that makes you feel more disconnected with the car?

For this reason I'd love to compare this with a genuine DOS installation where you have no emulation between you and the game. I might do an experiment with FreeDOS and I'll make a video if I get somewhere with it. Obviously there would be a lot of compatibility issues to figure out.

Wow, this program is absolutely brilliant! I never thought I would see my beloved GP2 looking so good.

The widescreen view, moving steering wheel and visible tyres add a whole new dimension to the game. Things like this only existed in my imagination when I was an 11 year old boy.

Couple of ideas to throw into the mix:
  • When on TV camera, it would be cool if we had the ability to hold the camera shot, just like the game sometimes does automatically in TV director mode.
  • I think someone already mentioned this, it would be great to be allowed to use external cameras when cars enter the pitlane (instead of forced cockpit view).

Hi all, some help needed please. I've sorted out my steering wheel to play this version of GP2 but the game doesn't seem to pick it up. It's a Logitech G920. My PC recognises the wheel and does the auto-calibration, but the game itself doesn't seem to recognise it. What can I do to fix this?

Have you watched Ted's new video? Worked for me and my G923

Yes, it came out not long after I posted this question

It's all working now! Hoping to record some proper footage soon!

I uploaded my 1994 car set this morning and it works perfectly - plus it solved the CAPS issue for driver edits!

Not sure how tracks/cockpit changes would work but for now I'm happy I can race with the proper 1994 liveries.

Thank you very much for making this fantastic version/update of GP2.
I downloaded the 0.322 version and all was good. After updating to 0.46 I have a tranparent problem.
Tyres are not shown, only the 'Goodyear* graphics, and the bracke details are all black.
Am I the only one with this problem? (Driving on win7)

Hi!

Hatcher says he is surprised that the game runs in Windows 7 at all. Also, please disable the tyre brand and restart the game to check if it fixes the problem.

Thanks for kind reply. I couldn't find the 'vid_displayTyreBrand' in the config file - so I added it in version 0.46 and changed it to '0' ... Unfortunately I still have the transparent problem. Let's see what future updates brings... :D

Indeed it feels suspicously easy to drive. Also more forgiving on using curbs. Maybe it is a consequence of the higher framerate?
Anyway I really enjoy driving this way. The game is definitely more playable like this.

Might be an interesting test you are thinking about. I think the feeling will be the same on an original version.

greetings! 8)
