Ok, that was second time around, but considering Todorov's success of the season it's like any other win is like a new winner

Todorov qualifies first again at Kyalami. Is this the road to championship?

The maths are simple. If Todorov wins here will be near to be the first GP2RW champion. But to do so must fight with the brazilian squadron of Remedio and Barbosa, maybe the Woldenberg´s and the german team AS TK - F1 BMW almost there each race. This is a definition, so everyone will fight till the bitter end.

69 laps, 2 pitstops as ever. Tomorrow, we will have the race.

Re: GP2 Racing World - South african GP - qualifying!

Post by racer63 »

In a crazy south african GP, Markus Rotter and Minarae (from 13th) won!

That´s why this is a beatifull sport. Chances are everywhere and today, Markus Rotter had that chance and won a race with many overtaking and accidents and leaving the championship at the same level as before. All the favourites suffered of some kind of problem. Todorov crashed heavily, while Roberto Remedio broke the engine. The only one who rescued something good was Leo Barbosa with some points. There were new faces at the podium, with Rotter, Dings and a spectacular Rickard Alingas.

The start. Todorov first and both Caccere behind with J Woldenberg in the middle of the track defending the position.

Image

Stil in the first lap, Todorov mantains the first place but now Remedio and Barbosa start to work together. Good work of thomas Kost reaching the fourth

Image

One of the MSR visiting the green

Image

Barbosa leading J Woldenberg, Kost, Pessoa and Andreas Schulz

Image

Lap 16 and Todorov was making his usual bussines: making a big gap over the second.

Image

Todorov leaving the pits in the middle of a pack of three cars. Kartunnen had no mercy of the bulgarian

Image

When Roberto Remedio completed his first pitstop, he went back to the track in 12th behind Todorov and both in the middle of the pack. That was the first warning light for the bulgarian.

Image

Todorov and Remedio going through. This time 4th and 5th

Image

Now the Team Bulgaria Mercedes car and the Caccere were at the front. Remedio was trying to find a way to overtake, before Todorov started to do the usual gap.

Image

A pity: Pessoa lost the 6th position

Image

J Woldenberg and Andreas Schulz fighting for 4th

Image

Second round of pitstops: Remedio is the first to enter and was back in front of Alingas

Image

Now is the turn for Todorov, who is back on track behind Leo Barbosa who quietly was having a steady race and now was in first.

Image

Leo Barbosa first, trying to make a gap for the pitstop

Image

The first blow of the race: Roberto Remedio out with an engine failure. Open race for Todorov?

Image

Now BArbosa was the only one in Caccere who could do something against the bulgarian. Note the position of M Rotter and of the Alingas, O´Donnel, Weidlinger and Richards.

Image

Lap 42 and Todorov had a violent accident into the wall. The medical service of the track had some work with the bulgarian, who is Ok.

Image

Now Barbosa, Schulz and Rotter was in the first three positions

Image

Jens Dings and Tim de Klein fighting for fourth

Image

The K Speed of Alingas running strong in the last part of the race

Image

Another good performer: O´Donell in 8th position so far

Image

Barbosa goes out of the track. Luckily the engine didn´t went off so he could return

Image

Now Schulz was the leader

Image

Barbosa started all over again, to work from 7th position

Image

And now the moment when Schulz lost the leadership, in five acts: in the last shot Jens Dings crashed into the AS TK and ended Schulz´s expectations

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Markus Rotter, found himself as the new leader

Image

Weidlinger broke the engine and BArbosa gained one place

Image

de Klein makes a mistake and Alingas also gains one place

Image

Final lap and Markus Rotter wins a crazy race and the first one in the year for Minarae
