John Edwards' tracks

Post by ismael »

Hello all,

I'm on my way to try as many GP2 tracks as possible, giving each track just a quick try to learn it and try to achieve a good result in a 10% race distance. (I developed a Super Monaco carset, based on an existing one, and I'm playing as You).

John Edwards seems to develop great tracks, but he never says which slot should be the best (nor the base he used). I don't want to change physics. Is there any way to know which slot could be the best for a given track? Thanks

Maybe we are spiritually related since back in the day I made a complete season out of his tracks with the SMGP carset :D :D :D

I don't think any of his tracks were optimized for any slot. Usually, when there is a slot indication in a GP2Form, it is just the slot where the creator ran the track. Sometimes it is a slot where the creator knows there are no bugs or where the pit in/out procedures will work without any issues.

That said, back then I used a few comments from his readme files to make some guesses about what would be the "right" slots. The South African track was my slot 1 track, it was a bit on the harder side. Castries was slot 2 iirc and it felt right. The European leg started with Austria, then it went to France, Germany and the others, but I don't remember if I used them in the same slot order, probably not.

I love all his tracks except the two San Francisco ones.

This is the calendar sequence I set on one of my GP2 using only ficticious tracks made by John Edwards (I have several GP2 installed here, and one of it has John Edwards' tracks, with a Formula 1 ficticious carset)

You all can notice this calendar was inspired in the 1994 Formula 1 countries sequence on schedule

In early 2018 I played a ficticious season, with 25% races distance, and I can't realize on that time if there was some pit entrance cc-cars trouble.

Uau!! :-D Why didn't you get for a second season? Don't tell me Ceara gave you a hard time :-P

Ok, thanks guys. As I'm thinking of 10% race distance, there won't be any problem with pit entrance, so I guess I'll use in any slot I see fit. I tested St. Lucia in slot 7 and looked alright. Very nice track, indeed.

As I'm just in the mood for track testing and feeling, I won't bother if I win one race and finish outside of top10 in another. Anyway, that's what would happen in SMGP with Minarae, right?

I'll might share the SMGP carset if someone is interested. I put together Ceara with Asselin in Madonna, replicated 1989 all the way, and inserted a couple of Grand Prix 1 and real-life drivers when needed.
