Fridtjof, you car looks excellent! =D>
Maybe a real F1 team can look at it and use it, because I think it's that good. 8)

It's an honour, for Tim & me, that you and several others use our work as a base.

Thank you all for the kind comments! It was nice to paint a car again after pausing for a longer time now.

And thank you DJS for allowing me to use your car as base! BTW: Happy Birthday! GP2-community is getting older and older :D ;-)

FK could get a job as a professional livery designer. His AAS from 2007 was also fantastic.

Can I just ask, how are you guys getting the livery (NL2 quality) to look like that? My liveries always look a bit rubbish, although I will admit they have got better since my downloading of Paint.net.

I just wanted to know what programs and techniques NL2 team use to get their cars to look that pro!!

I often take nl²-parts, "clean" them and then I do some RGB-switching.

I use Paint Shop Pro 10 and upgrade to 16 mio colors, then you can use cool tools for generating shadows, soften borders and so on . After that I switch back to the gp2 palette. The most important thing is to work with layers IMO, you can do real great stuff with that, for instance creating a chrome effect on something (GP2 does not have enough colors for real good chrome though).

For this UT2004-character I used the burn effect for the plate in the face and finally merged layers to get the metal effect on the suit:

My technique to make the cars and aero-parts is just to draw what I see in the pictures pixel by pixel.
Tim "smoothes" it out where needed and puts the logos on. =D>
That's how we work, at least.

BTW: thanks for the best wishes, didn't notice them untill now..... #-o

I do the same as DJS, I just draw it pixel-by-pixel from a photo then find the logos with Google Images and use Paint.NET to manipulate them into the right size and shape then shade them. Usually for any given type of car I'll paint a template in black & white with all the shading already on it, then just recolour it. Then if several teams use the same type of car, it's easier to re-use the template rather than start from scratch. For instance, a lot of teams in the BTCC/WTCC use the BMW 3-series so I've made a black and white template of the 3-series model as a base, then just recolour it and add logos for each team.

By the way, perhaps this could be made into a new forum topic? I think it would be interesting to give tips and tricks for aspiring car painters, although I do think it's important for us all to have our own individual style.

I think there has been a nice animated gif transforming the 2006er renault into the 2007er somewhere.

The template hint is good, I also do this.

The best way to improve is simply trying, starting with recoloring and then get better with each car ;)

Well, my car is finally finished and I'm happy with it now. It looks like a classic Caccere! :D

In fact there are two versions and I still need to choose the one I like most.

I'll send it on the next days...

Can someone help me with the Menu Helmets? I'm afraid I can't do them by myself.

Regards!!
