GP2Edit on Windows XP

Post by Joethe147 »

I can't run GP2Edit using the Compatibility Wizard or with DOSBox. I don't know if I need a certain version or not. I'm sure there's some people on here with XP/Vista that can run GP2Edit, so I'm wondering how to do it.

It's probably been asked a lot of times before, and I did search, but the only solution I found was something about a 16-bit of XP not working or something like that, and I've no idea what that's about.

How doesn't it work? Do you get error messages or something when you try to run it?

It says as a heading "16-bit Windows Subsystem" and then "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications."
I can't get a pic of it at the moment as it won't upload.

You guys have no problems with it, so there must be something wrong here.

Very strange.

Sounds like you have a corrupted or missing file somewhere, couldn't even begin to say what or where though!

Did you try to not use those options?

Welcome to the forums, first of all! :)

I've personally never heard of such an error, but apparently, it's not unknown to the Microsoft Support. ;-)

According to the article...
This issue may occur if one or more of the following files are missing or damaged:
Config.nt
Autoexec.nt
Command.com
There are two alternative methods suggested that are supposed to fix the problem.

I'd still be curious as to which version of GP2Edit you're using, as I didn't think that was an MS-DOS-based or 16-bit program.

I tried method 2 from that link and.....IT WORKS! :D

Thanks a lot AD and to everyone who posted. Hi also, I did join specifically for help with this, but I'll definitely stick around now.

Is there any guides on how to install carsets, tracks and other stuff? I don't have a clue to be honest. :P

Trying to install a track, and I've just applied the NOCD patch. It says to copy the circuits folder from the GP2 CD to the GP2 on my HD. I have a downloaded (legally) version of GP2, so I'm not sure what to do here. I've put the DAT file in slot 14 like the readme says, but where do I put the bmp files?

I've followed the instructions and no downloaded tracks are working. It mentions the cd version, but I have a downloaded version, so does that mean I'm screwed with new tracks?

Sorry for all the posts which are really off-topic in this topic, but on the circuits thing.

I've tried Valencia, Brands Hatch and Singapore. Valencia and Brands work, Singapore doesn't.

With Brands, I've put the BMP files in it's specific folder in the GAMEJAMS folder.

For Valencia and Singapore, I put their BMP files separate in the BITMAPS folder, and even though Singapore does not work, but Valencia does, so it can't be related to that.

When I try to run Singapore, I get this screen:

With Brands and Valencia, their BMP files don't show up when choosing tracks, the BMP file that does show up is the one of the track I'm replacing (Monza and Jerez in this case). How do I get it showing?

Patch the Gp2.exe with gp2limit.
