question about vdmsound setup

Hello,

First of all, great site. I still play GP2 almost everyday on my old pc. But my brother has a newer pc and I have problems with running gp2

I'm not the best with the computers and I'm havin a bit of trouble with playing gp2 on winxp. I used the tutorial and everything's going ok, but I'm not able to change the setup with vdmsound.

You have created a VDMS shortcut to "setup.exe" now which will typically be named "SETUP" and it's icon will be a little black box with the text "C:\" on it.

until this, everything works, but when I do this:

Double-click this shortcut to start GP2's sound setup program while using VDMS.

there comes a little black screen (VDMS Launchpad - SETUP) which says loading 'VDDLoader.dll'...
and nothing happens.

the strange thing is vdms does work with gp2.exe (the next step) but not with the setup.exe

Hi Coloni,

the problem is that the setup.exe will be loaded from the CD if you play GP2 without any updates but if you use VDSsound, everything have to be on the lokal PC.

So download this, and extract it to the GP2 folder. If you run it now, you will see a english form of setup, normally without the menubackgroundpictures.

I've downloaded the nocd-patch already and the vdms-thing is working with gp2.exe en gp2lap.exe, only the setup gives problems.

Do you mean I have to copy (setup-)things from the cd to the gp2-directory on the harddisk?

I dunno if you already checked out the great tutorial on Grandprix2.de. If you haven't done yet maybe it can help you.

But as HF said, you need to download the setup-file, then run it with VDMS and then you should hear the cars drive away (in the setup) and everything is fine.

I did what said the manual http://grandprix2.de/wissen/gp2_xp/gp2_xp2.html but the problem persist with the *.exe and the gp2lap too.
Also did the other manual http://grandprix2.de/Anleitung/dosbox/e ... osbox.html but the fu**ing DOSBOX is very slow.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Make sure you have installed with the
-"no cdrom" patch: gp2nocd.zip (13kb).
AND
-"no cdrom" patched setup.exe: setup_nocd.zip (39kb).
or
-Restart?
or
-copy your GP2 folder to C:\GP2 or D:\GP2 and try it again.
Sometimes folders with long names (more than 8 letters) make this problem.
or
-copy vddloader.dll to \windows\system32

or
-visit the VDMSound General forum http://vogons.zetafleet.com/index.php

I don`t think, that this will work.

If you have Win 7 Ultimate you can install XP Mode and try it with that one ;)

With that it should be no problem. There might be issues with Service Pack 3, for myself GP2 works better with SP2
