Any tricks to power up dosbox/GP2?

In Svga mode, I have disabled sky and all mirror related graphics and put framerate to 21. I have also installed cockpit with smaller mirrors. With these settings PO% stays under 100% most of the time in cockpit (except Monaco). In "TV view mode" PO% climbs easily over 100 % with every track.

I am using dosbox ECE. Is there any tricks to power up dosbox/GP2 that I would able to run with full graphics? Or is the problem that I don't have enough powerful computer?

My computer specs are:
Windows 8.1 64-bit
AMD A6-3620 APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 4,0 GB RAM,AMD Radeon HD 700 series

It looks like you have the cpu speed and cycles set up correctly, so unfortunately I don't think there is anything we can modify to make it perform any faster

I know this is not what you wanted to hear

in some pcs and in some games the cycles auto does not perform right. try to use manual cycles instead of auto .. for example there that says cycles=ayto change it and put the values you want for example 16000 cycles etc

Thank you for your answers. Cycles are set to maxium (cycles=max), so I think changing that value does not make difference.

Well, game itself are so good and fun to drive, that I can forgive that I cant use mirror or sky details. :) Maybe someday I upgrade my computer and will be able to run with full graphics and 25,6 framerate :D

I am lucky. I am able to run dosbox ece (which is 32 bit) and I can get full framerate with all details, bells and whistles. I built my pc in 2013 and went with an i7 processor high end video card and 32 gb of ram

I'm in the same boat as ismael, I went back to VGA mode so I can run with full framerate and all graphics turned up to max (even Monaco). I don't regret it, I got used to the VGA graphics and that's how I always used to play it. In my opinion the gameplay is much nicer at full frame rate which I cant achieve in svga

My laptop is now about 7 years old. I realized that the emulation "took" the computing power so I'm playing in VGA just like I did before. At least now I can have full details in VGA...
I'm seriously considering installing a Windows 98 or XP partition, it might be easier to run old games.
I'm in the same boat as ismael, I went back to VGA mode so I can run with full framerate and all graphics turned up to max (even Monaco). I don't regret it, I got used to the VGA graphics and that's how I always used to play it. In my opinion the gameplay is much nicer at full frame rate which I cant achieve in svga
Maybe I also give change to VGA graphics, try it at least few races. I just tested quickly and in VGA mode I was allowed to run with full graphics and full framerate. It didnt look so bad what I remember. Maybe I will test few different scalers in Dosbox with this VGA mode.

because i play gp2 in more than one pcs which some of them are newer and some older my experiences says the following. year itself does not matter as much as we think . sometimes it has to do with which dos box you use, sometimes with how much ram and processor power you have etc. what i have witnessed is that sky and mirrors slow down the game quite a lot

for me it is better to have svga and lose for example the sky and the mirrors if necessary than to demote myself to vga..ok i accept it is a matter of taste. i have tried gp2 in vga and i have enjoyed the races i have played but not as much with svga.. but as i said previously , it is a matter of taste 100%

Since I don't really care for the external view frame rate, I'm able to run the game on full graphics without many problems. Just some tracks like Sudschleife and some of the most recent tracks by Michael will give me trouble, which is a shame because they are so beautiful.

Unfortunately, DOSBox development has been very slow for the past decade, but I think it is not completely halted. So maybe we will get a faster version someday.

Well, I did some tweaking in GP2LAP config and get svga mode running little bit smoother. I lowered little bit Svga distances.

What Ismael said about installing Windows 98 or XP partition, let me know if you succeed.

Hello, I would like to install the game GrandPrix 2 by Microprose on a Windows 10 notebook! Have everything in the folder GP2 and start setup there. The cursor then goes down and flashes, but nothing more happens in the DosBox. When I start the GP.exe the game starts but no savegames are accepted from there!
