GP2Edit - Windows 11

Post by CriggleWiggle »

Hi all, first post here but LONG TIME GP2 player... I have to say I'm gobsmacked that a lot of you are still avid fans!

I've toyed with modding car sets over the years but nothing as far as track packs etc, but I've recently treated myself to a new laptop and installed D-Fend Reloaded, using the excellent guide by Andreas. However my new laptop now runs Windows 11 and am unable to open GP2Edit.

I'll have a few more questions regarding installing tracks in the near future but for now does anyone have any advice how I can run GP2Edit?

Thanks to anyone who might be able to help!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I'll be no help to you, unfortunately, but I'd like to say a few welcoming words anyway. This forum and community not only focus on a more-than-25-year-old game but also reminds us of a time when internet was calmer and happier.

I use Windows 8 at home and Windows 10, so I can't really help. But, as you surely noticed, there's a good number of Gp2 modding specialists around that might have a trick or a solution. I said a few months ago that I'm considering installing a Windows XP or 95 partition in my computer (or in a new one) in order to try to deal optimally with older games; I still haven't done it, but the idea is still on.

Good luck, and cheers!

Hi Ismael, thanks for your reply!

It turns out I'd actually downloaded the original GP2Edit and not the zip file, so a rookie error if ever there was one!

Anyway, I've managed to upload my 1994 car set to start my GP2 career all over again (I've joined Frentzen at Sauber), running 100% races with just TC switched on (keyboard player). It's been a fun start to the season!

I'm hoping to get to learn how to add tracks and everything else that comes with each season, but if you or anyone can point me in the direction of full files to upload to my GP2 folder that would be fantastic. I understand this may not be possible, so if are there any step-by-step guides for installing tracks then I'd be grateful too.

And to think I first played GP2 when I was 12 and here I am, at 38, feeling like a kid all over again!

Thanks in advance

Hm, prior my switch to a vmware workstation windows xp I used the "XP Mode" in Windows, which let you run Windows XP in a virtual machine in the background. MS calles that MS VirtualPC.

I don`t know if Windows 11 supports that, a first search with search-tool only shows me that two things for Windows 10. Another workaround would be to set up a virtual machine with windows xp (for instrance virtual box is for free) and just use this one for patching the gp2.exe, which you than can copy via shared folder.

Personally I have D-Fend reloaded set up in the virtual machine, do all the patching there and if I want to use it on another machine I just copy the folder and cfg-file

I'm sorry it took me so long to approve your post. There was dozens of spambot posts waiting for being disapproved and your post got shuffled between them. Now I finally cleaned all the spam away and hopefully I won't miss real posts again.

To be honest, D-Fend Reloaded works fine on Windows 11, so I've already managed to complete 13 races - 3 more and it's on to 1995!

I'll be taking some time this week to browse the forum and see what helpful guides to install tracks (I had a quick try this weekend but unfortunately only get the circuit... the sky and everything else is black) but I'm assured that those on here will be able to help me in no time!

Not a problem - understand a new user might be treated as suspicious :)

That sounds like the graphic or GP2 calls them .JAM files are missing.

1) Create the folder like stated in readme or gp2form.txt
2) Put the JAD or JAM Files there
3) If there are JAD-files convert them. -> Many gp2-tracks inlcude convert.exe, else you can download it on grandprix2.de-Website

Happy racing
