- World Sportscar Racing '92
19.10.2009
- After the complete ban of turbo-engines for 1992, the starting-grids
of the SWC decreased dramatically. Actually the FIA wanted to cancel
the whole series for 1992, but Toyota and especially Peugeot protested
against it with success.
It
were also these teams who fought out the championship, with the better
end for Peugeot, who did a lot of developement during the season.
Mazdaspeed with their TWR-built MXR-01 and Euro Racing with their
customer Lola-chassis were never able to compete against the big two,
while BRM had major problems and the project was cancelled after only
four races.
The grid was filled with some FIA-cup
cars, for
example the Gebhardt, which scored a 3rd overall in the season-opener
at Monza (but that was because all other cars failed to finish) or Le
Mans based Courage team with their Cougar.

 JSPC:
The
Nismo team clearly dominated the championship in 1992. Even the private
Nova Engineering car was able to score some podiums. But also Toyota
with their prooven C92-V scored a lot of good results and when they
introduced their TS010 at the end of the season, they were able to
fight for the overall-win again.
IMSA:
After
several years of Nissan-dominance, Dan Gurney's All American Racers
finally won the championship in 1992. Nissan had a close fight for
2nd-place with Jaguar, who came over to America with their XJR-14 and
finally ended 3rd. Behind the Chevrolet teams Joest Racing finished a
proper 5th with their completely updated Porsche 962C
