As you know, F1GP is the first game of the Grand Prix series by Geoff Crammond and it is aka World Circuit in the USA. :)

I think each one of us history about GP1 is just the same for everyone. I remember playing season after season in multiplayer mode. We were three players. My brother, one of my cousins and me. First on the Amiga 500, then Amiga 1200 and later the PC version when my cousin bought his first PC, a 486. I must have been one of the few (or maybe the ony one) to have order mailed the GP1 editor for Amiga from UK to Argentina: a 3.5 diskette.

Later came GP2 many more seasons and the rest is history, being involved in each one of the names of the GP series altough my heart was always in the GP2 side.

I remember a track editor for GP1 that remains on mistery to this day. There´s no much information but someone could do some changes to the Monza Track if I remember well. Anyone used it? Or could do something interesting with it? :)

I found some F1GP vids:

As far as I know, F1GP was very popular at F1 fans and race sim experts after its release.

I remember this came out just a few years before "fotorealistic" was used in gaming magazine tests for racing titles. Now, maybe that was a little optimistic at that time, still...

On a serious note, the game's Monza track did have a rather weird-seeming slow exit to the Ascari chicane. It was a braking and rear-ending spot, uncharacteristically.

F1GP was great and besides Indianapolis 500 one of my favorite games for PC. I`ve made carset until the 1996 season, until I got my hands on GP2 and that`s my all-time favorite so far. I`Ve also made a 2008 carset, when I got it running again using DosBox, but mostly I use the unpatched 1991 carset with slight modifications (correct team colors for Coloni and Modena, correct names).

I play it from time to time and the time is always well spent. A true classic for me :D

Guys I said that GP1 worked like a charm in my computer, but I was wrong...

I installed GP1 today, but to my surprise the game has no sound now, even running with DosBox or VDMSound. Using Win XP. I´m baffled

There are just a few flaws with F1ED:
* If Driver 1 has the best skills, and the other one is far slower, he still can beat driver 1 regularly
* Helmet color editing sucks, due you can`t simply switch pilots
* The first team will always have issues, due it uses the McLaren colorsheme as base. But this can be eliminated by leaving the first team blank

If you`re interested in my 2009er set you can find it in the attachement
