Judging by the vogons forums it appears dosbox ece has gone the way of the dodo. Annoyingly its been deleted off github and the developers site. This is quite irritating as it was easily my favorite variant. What other versions do people recommend?
My main criteria is that the Sim runs at normal speed and not fast like the standard dosbox. Full savestate like svn-daum would be an added bonus but not a must. I don't really care about scaling or graphics I just want a smooth and stable experience.
I'm running on Linux and I never used dosbox on linux so any suggestions will be helpful, ECE looks out of the question as even the old versions look like they've been removed. Feel free to also suggest windows options for other users as the ECE takedown affects all gp2 players many of which used ece as their go to
I already installed gp3 and gp3-2000 on Linux and it runs even better than my old windows system
dosbox ece is dead
Re: dosbox ece is dead
I still run dosbox ECE for GP2, but I use dosbox-x for ICR2. There is no reason why you can't use ECE still. There are archives of it in several places:GP2tifoso28 wrote: ↑27.02.2025, 23:14Judging by the vogons forums it appears dosbox ece has gone the way of the dodo. I run a windows 7 OS (dual boot with Debian) on my racing computer, but I normally only use it for gp2 and icr2. The reason I use windows 7 is because most of the modding tools are easier in windows.
Stick with works- if you want to test the game time rate just set the magic data on a track to 16384 for the time scale factor. Time should match real life- just check with a stop watch.

Re: dosbox ece is dead
I'd be more than happy to keep using it, but I only know how to install on Linux through the terminal and no repos have ece from what I know. I don't have a windows partition, I can try dosbox ece through wine though

Re: dosbox ece is dead
I tried dosbox X, the timing is off and somehow the physics feel strange
For example at Monza my stopwatch showed +10 seconds to the game time, I compared it to Ted Meat at Monza who used ECE and the stopwatch was -6 seconds to game time
Likewise Monaco I was +10 to game time, ted meat (I think he used svn-daum) was -6
Adelaide I was +6, ted meat (ece) -7, gplaps (x86) -7
Max cycles PO 40%
I'll try dosbox staging next

I had this exact same problem with game timing and samsepi0l provided me with the solution for fixing it, you can read about it in this thread https://grandprix2.de/gp2forum/viewtopi ... =2&t=23929GP2tifoso28 wrote: ↑28.02.2025, 15:18I tried dosbox X, the timing is off and somehow the physics feel strange

The problem is you absolutely must set the magic data time scaling factor to 16384 to take accurate measurements and know if your emulator is causing a problem, or if it's the normal adjustments that magic data does. I don't know if rremedio's tool works in linux with wine (never tried).
When I ran dosbox ece in linux, I had to compile from scratch to get it to work. It was just easier to use windows- plus the tools I have for both my games are primarily focused on windows users. I plan on building a new pc specifically around playing dosbox and icr2/gp2 soon- it will have some form of windows that will be only used for this. I have a seperate linux pc for all of my regular computing.

Re: dosbox ece is dead
I got the latest windows version working in wine, it seems to run OK, proper speed as expected. Maybe the PO is a bit high, its floating between 50-70% and sometimes going up to 90 in certain scenarios. Its not a perfect solution but at least it works.
I found the source code for the Linux version but its honestly far above my capabilities to compile it.
It looks like dosbox staging also runs at proper speed judging from ted meats old video. I didn't try it yet because I have no idea how to install it without using flatpak or snaps
