Elio's accident was probably one of the most senseless deaths in motor racing, nobody should have to die in testing. At least it highlighted the lack of safety measures during testing sessions. Although judging by some of the GPDA's comments during 2006, looks like not a lot has changed...

Correct, all it would take is the right (or rather wrong) set of circumstances for someone to die in F1. After all, Senna's death was basically down to chance, if the suspension hadn't pierced his helmet he'd probably have survived. And look at Michele Alboreto's death at the wheel of a virtually indestructible Audi R8 sportscar: it was sheer chance that a tyre blew at that speed, and that the car flipped (although that could be blamed on aerodynamics), and then that the roll hoop hit the ground in such a way that it sheared off. As Max Mosley said a while ago, there's a small but finite possibility of you coming unstuck.
