At the beginning a bad weekend for Alonso.
7. or 8. place, ten laps before the end.
Vettel is leading.
Vettel and Webber (second) fight for the championship.
Two laps to go. Webber attacks ............
Alonso passes the wrecks.

I think it will be Webber, but I support Vettel. Alonso is doing a great job, but I hate Ferrari, so...

I hope that Vettel does it, because he has proven that he is the faster of the RB-drivers.

Worst case would be Alonso winning the title with less than 7 points ahead of the 2nd. This would be a defeat for the sport.

Personally I think Alonso has the best chances, followed by Webber and Vettel. I voted for Webber though, here are my thoughts:

Webber:
Maybe he has a better start than Vettel and leads anyway, else he could be 2nd behind Vettel. If Alonso is running better than 5th (which could happen quite easily) than Vettel is out of the title race at the moment and the "both drivers can race as long as they have changes" codex is not broken.

Alonso:
He has still the best position, due both rivals need to win at any cost and there might be collisions. From his racing skills he is the fastest driver on the grid (my oppinion) and he does all what is needed to win. He is not the most sympathic character around, but he also could beat the Red Bulls or at least one has a technical failure.

Vettel:
He has the speed to win the race (he also did that last year) and if Alonso is not placed better than 5th, he has done it. If Alonso and Webber are out he still must win the race to win the title.

Hamilton:
All 3 other title contenders out of the race and Hamilton winning the race. Anything can happen, but this outcome has the worst odds. Could steal crucial points!

There's so much talk about this amazing season that we've almost entirely seen now. I'm still failing to see how five drivers who've all had their fair share of daft screw-ups, thus enabling the others to stay within grabbing range of their championship position, are wildly amazing enough to say "best season ever" etc. I actually have to say that I've gotten tired enough of the cocky smiles, childish fingers and wildly optimistic interviews all around that I'm at the point where I actually appreciate the end of the season coming up. :(

At the moment, I'd point at Alonso for becoming champion, but there's still a chance other drivers may have a bit of luck chucked their way. The good thing is it won't be long now until it's decided.

At least this year, there is actually still a championship decider to be celebrated at this last race, which means there will be a bit more talk about sport and actual performances and less airtime to dedicate to praising „amazing facilities“ without so much as losing a word on circuit designs or track layouts – which was my negative impression of at least Germany‘s coverage of the final race last season.

I agree with you about this one not being an impressive season at all. And I think Abu Dahbi has the worst track of all season. But F1 seems to be completely sold out to Tilke tracks. That's sad.

Hamilton was blindingly fast at Abu Dhabhi last year until the wheel broke. He will have the most fun, potentially. Win or else and hope for unreliability or bad luck for Fernando and the Red Bulls. But Alonso is in the catbird seat. Fernando is not going to do something stupid. Its his championship to lose, and he generally does not make mistakes on track....

Vettel's cursing that broken exhaust from Bahrain now isn't he?

I just calculated the points of the Top-5 with the old point-system:

2010 (after 18 races)
99 - Alonso
96 - Webber
94 - Vettel
91 - Hamilton
81 - Button

A look at the previous seasons:

2009 (17 races)
95 - Button
84 - Vettel

2008 (18 races)
98 - Hamilton
97 - Massa

2007 (17 races)
110 - Räikkönen
109 - Hamilton
109 - Alonso

2006 (18 races)
134 - Alonso
121 - Schumacher

The conclusion out of this statistics could be, that we saw a great champion, who showed a strong performance over a whole season, for the last times in 2006 and 2007. And to be honest this is my personal impression, too.
