EuroBOSS @ Nurburgring

Post by DJS »

On Saturday I attended the EuroBOSS meeting during the Oldtimer Festival at the Nurburgring.

Here are the pictures:

This Arrows A21 caught fire, unfortunately, in the free practice and didn't run anymore that day, this is the only picture I managed to take, because nobody was allowed nearer:

And now when you thought it was the end, a whole new story begins.

At the press & testday at Spa early April and the previous meeting at Zolder, I saw a nice mechanic working and thought let's do something special for her:

So I got a nice shirt made with her name on it and the name of the team etc.
But she had just quit. #-o
But they could use some help, because the gearbox wasn't working properly on Ingo Gerstl's car and he was going to start from 2nd.
So the team had to push start the car for the start.

Here are some pics my dad took, they're not so good, because the camera wasn't in the right mode. :-$

Flying start:

Lap 1, Ingo in 4th place, but he'll finish in 2nd, because the other 2 will spin and fall behind:

I hope you've enjoyed the pictures and story. :wink:

yeah, nice :P

Are you a member or anything from a EuroBoss team? Or how do you get so close to the cars each time, so that you can even push them to the grid? :-k

Is this a complete Ascari design, or is it a Prost from 1997??? Can't figure it out... :-k

I'd say it's a Benetton B196.

From my personal experience there are no problems to get into the pits at such events. Everyone there is pretty relaxed and you can also ask questions to the mechanics.

About the story with the mechanic: Did you make a shirt for her or for you!?

And what is your connection to the Topspeed team exactly?

@TdK

It is in fact a Benetton B197 but with the aero package of a B192/193, to have more downforce but with less drag.

It's indeed no problem to get into the pitboxes and close to the cars, just be polite and ask if you think that it is needed.
Especially with the newer cars you'll have to ask if you can stand closer to take pictures, because they are so precious and you might break something.
Some teams have their boxes closed off and only by asking you might get closer.

@V12

I had a shirt made for me to wear and show to her.
This was on the front: No. 1 fan of Jessica from Top Speed
And on the back: http://www.top-speed.cc

I didn't have any connection to the team on saturday morning when I left home, but that shirt I was wearing changed it all.
I first showed it to Malin and she laughed and took pictures of it and than 1 of the machanics came to me and said that they would need some help and that's how it started.
