Mika Hakkinen

Post by Greyhead »

Mika Hakkinen has again announced his retirement, this time from the DTM. Wonder what odds you'd get on him being Lewis Hamilton's team mate next season...

Hmm, i think he will get an advisor-role with McLaren, like Schumacher has with Ferrari. :-k

Yeah, probably. I'd like to see him in some sort of driver coach role for Merc's young driver programme. He proved in the DTM that he can still handle a car. And he was in the McLaren pit a few times this year. Schumacher versus Hakkinen on the pitwall would be pretty cool!

Finally he left the boring series. Good news !
Maybe we have a chance to see him in a better series.

Well, I thought it was nice to see him race for another few years after he left F1, but of course you have to respect this kind of decision when it comes. Let's see what kind of new things he has in mind with Mercedes and/or McLaren in the future.

Yeah, how long is it going to take until someone makes the bogus connection between Häkkinen retiring from DTM racing and a free cockpit at McLaren.

Well he's said that he'll definitely be working with Merc still. Interestingly though he doesn't say anything about retiring from driving, just that he's retiring from the DTM... Perhaps a McLaren return isn't as daft an idea as it sounds!

Slightly wild idea here, but since the talks between McLaren and Prodrive have hit the rocks, perhaps Mercedes could buy Prodrive's entry and set up their own B-Team with Hakkinen at the helm, similar to the proposed Direxiv entry with Jean Alesi...
