New system for GP2 modding in mind

Well after looking a little around I come with an idea for the GP2 modding which seems to be dying already...
Instead of making just carsets or only a few tracks per year we can start something new. We already have a plenty of tracks, carsets, patches, graphics and so on. We can try to make from them full GP2 mods.

For example if we want to have a 1993 mod we will get one fresh copy of GP2, patch with with every important thing, import graphics, carset (1993) and tracks (1993) into it, then archive it and upload it somewhere. This should be legal and we already saw something like this. The only minus about this is: the process of doing this things. And we must create standarts (what must be included and what not) for example VDM Sound or DOSBOX are optional things. Im sure this can be done and in terms of memory (around 65 MB) one mod will be smaller if we compare it to rFactor for example.

And in this way we will distribute the game in several F1 (or non-F1 seasons). Every of them as a standalone game. For the novice user this will be a big help (also no troubles about downloading GP2 itself).

What you think?

for me your idea it is good.. complete carset would be of great benefit for all but i think that it is better to start from nowadays and not fromo the past

This I don't know. About the year I juust gave and example. By the way there are still missing tracks for the last few F1 seasons so it will be better to choose from the older seasons first (2009, 2010). And let's first see the opinion of the others.

Well, this is neither legal nor new idea (just look at the 1991 Mod released last year).

I've been working on something similar, but it will take much longer than I'd like because of time restrictions.

My two cents: instead of distributing a full game, which is illegal, make a big zip which one can just extract into his GP2 folder and have the full pack installed.

I know Microprose or Geoff won't take any legal measures against someone distributing GP2, but it is illegal anyway and remember, we are all guests here, if someday they go crazy and take any measure, the measure will be against AAS: the nice guy who hosts the only good website with GP2 content in the whole web and also hosts this forum. That's why I won't ever encourage full game distribution in this forum.

But if you ask me what I think about you making full packs with everything needed to run a full GP2 season in a few clicks install I'll say: that's fantastic! It's what I think GP2 needs more than anything else. =D>

With this I mean that we already have such a thing (1991 mod).

I will agree with you at 100% because this is the safest way for us to do the things. Now I will do just a quick research in the site for what we have and how I can make the things easier. I will include Readme file too. You will see... :)

a big zip file as said by rremedio would be perfect.
We can put another page on the site for all these mods...the 1991 was great but the link is only on one message on the forum and not on the site if I'm not wrong...newcomers probably will never find it.

The problem I think is when you change magic data, phisics data and all the other datas using the editor. Do they change when you install the circuits?

Anyway I think we have to start with current season...

They do not change. But it would be easy to create a seasoninstall.exe or whatever and you just need to click on it to update your game with the correct data.

Current season would be the best choice, but there is no carset and there are missing tracks. The seasons suggested by RacerBG (2009, 2010) would be easier to work out.

I can not create executable files but I can collect in one archive everything that is needed for the correct season. There will be only one problem - it will not be one click install. We must first get rid of this problem. Collecting is not hard but the install will not be one click. Who can make executables? Or we can do it with bat files?

This is a full game so it's not recommended.

I know...that's why I think it's useless to do so...an exe file would be perfect for sure!

About 2013, missing only Austin i think...but maybe it will be released in the short future...other circuits need updates but it's the same for 2010/11 seasons...we will see :)

I wish I could help updating the tracks and creating installers. But I won't have enough free time so soon. Anyway, I can create an exe just to update GP2.exe with the correct data after everything else is installed. It shouldn't take too long.

Ok so today I will start collecing data for let's say season 2010 with NL2 mod. I will collect the best tracks which matches the season, the latest NL2 carset, some good sounds, every patch or program that is needed to run the game (GP2Lap, DOS4GW, GP2Limit.....) until I collect everything IMPORTANT! After that I will make a list with the files which I had collected (here) and then I hope together we can see which file updates what (I will remove the original circuit files as well to make the game clear).

And then if any program is needed it can be created or at least bat file. Instructions like GP2Form will be included with every mod. :!:

Well I had decided to be the 2009 mod because at least we have track maps for it. Ohh man almost every track here is so outdated...Too bad that I can't make tracks. :(

Here is the download link (after about 2 weeks it will be deleted). Click on the file to download it: http://dox.bg/files/dw?a=814250bcde

I had collected everything that I *think* is needed. Your suggestions or modifications are welcomed but remember that this are just files from this site and not game modification at all. :!:

Anyway the first step is done I *think*. :)
