First of all I think Jenson Button has deserved the title in this season, which was not like the previous.

That leads me to my second point: In a normal season only a driver who kept his good form constantly would have won the title. But in the second half of the season Button was clearly dominated by Barrichello, so I think he's (like already said) a deserved but not a "big" champion (like Senna, Schumacher etc).

As I didn't post anything at the time, I'd just like to say that as 2010 dawns - literally, I want to say how proud I was of Jenson for winning the title in 2009.

I started supporting him from 1999 when he was in F3 and I always thought he was good but have to admit he didn;t impress me as much as anothher driver called Marc hynes who became F3 champ that year.
Anyway, since JB got the drive with Sir Frank, i;ve supported him - through ALL the bad times and I have to admit that when he took the flag in Brazil to clinch the title, I cried. When you've been there through it all with a driver, like I did with Ayrton, and Michael (especially in Suzuka '00), it really makes me proud.

I can honestly say that seeing him crowned champion made my year in many respects and as a fan of F1, I don;t care what others think of him, Jenson has a similar personality to me and is a decent geeza with a talent I wish I had.

Respect Jenson!

Your were fantastic and brought the car home.
WORLD CHAMPION BABY YEAH!

Thanks for making it a brilliant year mate.

Now there's a name from the past!

Marc was indeed a very talented driver, and one I liked as he drove for my local team Manor Motorsport (the forerunner of "Virgin Racing" / Manor Grand Prix), and he had everyone covered in 1999, including, as MaxD says, a certain Mr. J. Button. Unfortunately he was yet another very good driver hampered by a lack of cash and opportunities, if I remember rightly he barely drove the following season save for a couple of outings with the ridiculously bad World Racing Team in F3000, while Jenson had his first F1 season with Williams... Strange how things happen!

Thats right, he did.

He was in arguable the best car/team combination but still, did what he had to do but the seeds of Jenson's future were sewn the previous year in FFord. He had sponsors drooling over him and his management knew how to position him as a marketing tool brilliantly so although Hynes won the championship, Button's image had more momentum - underlined by the fact that marc wasn;t even offered an opportunity to test the Prost Peugeot (like Button), let alone go for the Williams seat in 2000.

Yet another driver confined to the scrape heap because of money and arguable poor management.

Indeed.

I remember he drove in the enduros in V8 Supercar in 2008, although like most "outsider" drivers who have a bash at this very specialised discipline, he wasn't that quick, but then again neither were James Thompson and Fabrizio Giovanardi...

I wonder if Marc will turn up at Manor Grand Prix in some capacity, he worked as a driver coach for them in F3 in recent years, it would be nice to see him knocking round the F1 paddock at last.

WOuld be good to see him there Greyhead but I tell you sommat, if I were invited into the F1 paddock in 2010 and I'd achieved what he did, knowing who he'd beaten along the way, and seen who was just crowned 2009 F1 champ, I think I'd feel sick and get this strange feeling to raise my right hand, form a fist with my hand, and SMACK Button in the nose!
