Speed Problems on GP2

Post by Tiki1810 »

Hi,

first i hope i got no double post and anotherone starts a topic like mine.
second, sorry for my bad english in advance, but i hope everyone understand me predominant. :)
third: I'm happy to join in this forum and greetings to everybody. I hope hope i have lot of fun with you and the game, after removing the dust of it's cd ;). Last time i've played it should be more than 6 years ago with windows millenium or 98 SE.

My problem is, that my Grand Prix 2 after a hard installations works too fast.
I followed the instuctions of this Tutorial: http://www.grandprix2.de/wissen/gp2_xp/gp2_xp2.html

Everything works, (ok sounds scratched a little bit but i can live with it)
But it's still to fast. (for example) ca. 125 % i would say.

Is there a way for fixing that problem?

I have a program, called "GP2 on XP speed game agjuster" / "VelocidadeXP-1".
But i cannot start it because in the istructions is written, that i have to use only the Shortcut with VDM-Sound, otherwise sound get lost. And so it's impossible to use it, or am I wrong?

Please help me to fix it, I really love the game and want to play it again like in good old times.. I have so many good memories to that game.

Edit: Sorry i just forgot.

I have Windows XP Service Pack 3,
AMD Athlon x64 3200+ (2,01 Ghz)
1,5 GB DDR1 Ram,
and a Ge-Force 210 Graficcard.

Thank You very much .

Welcome to our forums Tiki1810

read about speedset:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=278&p=5934&hilit=speedset#p5934
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=45&p=4185&hilit=speedset#p4185

If I remember right, this part is important:
Solution :
Start the GP2 setup.exe (with vdmsound) and check the sound settings.
Vdmsound doesn't work perfect with Soundblaster Pro or Soundblaster 16/AWE 32.
Choose Soundblaster. Not Pro or 16/AWE 32.
Don't use the sound test button ! The Program could crash when you use the Sound Test.
Save the configuration.

If this does not help try the speedset thing.

The speedset works perfectly here. I'm on WinXp sp2 (I did have problems with xp3 not running VDMS in a laptop, so I never updated it on my desktop).

By your computer specs (similar to mine) I would say DosBox is not a good idea, as the game would run too slow.

I guess it only works with WinXP?

vdmsound needs video drivers which allow DOS apps to go fullscreen.
This driver are not included in Vista + Windows7.
VDMSound works fine on Win7-x86, I use it on my netbook. I installed XP video drivers in order to allow DOS apps to go fullscreen (and get a small performance boost in other things). Without the XP video drivers it's not worth much, as without fullscreen support 99% of games will not run.

Here is the kicker: There are some tweaks you will need to do to get it to work without the erractic gameplay that some complain about. What I've found is to do the following tweaks to GP2 in Windows. Right click GP2.EXE and do the following under these tabs. 1) In “general settings”, select “close DOS window on exit”. 2) In the “DOS Environment” settings, allow the program to run with HIMEM.SYS and set FILES at 40. 3) (Most important) Under “Performance”, select the option to Cap DOS Timer Frequency. This appears to be what creates erratic gameplay. Do not select “Try to reduce CPU usage” unless you have a very fast computer. It will slow the game down dramatically. 4) Under “Compatibility”, uncheck the EMS (extended memory) option.

Hello guys,
I have a speed problem too...
I try "Slodown", "VelocidadeXP" and in "VDM Sound" I change the Sound Cards.
But it doesn't work. In many times I have frames like Speedy Gonzales than I have frams like a sleeping pill.

What can I do?
