Help with speed of game

Hello all, I've recently bought a new laptop and have freshly installed GP2 onto it. While running races, I noticed that the gameplay seemed to be faster than usual, so I timed a lap on my phone versus the game. On a lap of Anderstorp, the game was nine seconds faster than real life.
Is there a way I can slow the game down to make the lap times more accurate to real life? I've tried reducing the cycles and that hasn't helped.

I'll be waiting for a good reply to this one.
I usually put the frame rate, in the graphics menu, at 21,3. But in one of my recent GP2 instalations, the 21,3 frame rate doesn't seem to work; the game still keeps flowing too fast. This never happened before.

what dos emulator system are you using?
I had this problem before switching to dosbox ece. There are other posts about it.
here is the last version available of ECE

I use SVN-Daum, but I've also since downloaded ECE, Staging, and X, but I have the same issue on all of them.
As mentioned, Anderstorp is nine seconds per lap quicker but I also did a timed test around Zhuhai and that was spot on, so I'm completely baffled by this. It might be something to do with that particular Anderstorp mod, but I can't say that with absolute certainty.

You need to understand that the timing ratio is related to the magic data. If you want to measure and verify the real life time is the same as gp2 time, you NEED to set magic data timing number to 16384.
So first pick a track, set timing in magic data to 16384 - then measure the difference of the gp2 cockpit clock with a real stopwatch for a difference. If there is a difference- your emulator software is the problem.
For me, ECE is the exact same when I run 16384
Now, microprose introduced the ability to stretch time some by including the magic data timing number. I think this was done because the tracks in the original game weren't modeled as well as some of the newer versions that say for example Michael82 made. You could get around the tracks too fast and the laptimes were much faster than real life. So they included the ability to stretch the time with magic data changing.

I have never changed magic data before, is this something I need to download to be able to do?

yes - changing magic data is easy - this is how I accomplish many things that make the gp2 experience so much better (especially with custom tracks)
Don't be overwhelmed, it seems like a lot the first time you look at it but it really isn't

Once you start messing with magic data it will change gp2 for the better. I check the forum several times a day and I will be around if you need help.

You absolute legend, this solved the problem perfectly! Huge thanks, time to get back to recording the Grand Prix World Series!

No problem, it makes me feel good to help others with GP2 or ICR2.
I think it is important to understand the reason why time-stretch was implemented. When I first found out about this I wanted to eliminate it- but I was making laps around microprose monaco at 1m10s! LOL. I ended up adjusting it so that the front of the grid was competitive with real life times of the circuit I was trying to race for the generation of cars I was interested in. For the most part times get faster as years go by.
The funny thing is, for ICR2 I just created a track called Riverside 1982 which was a real CART/Indycar track in the very early 80s. Lap times in real life were about 1m29 seconds or so. Because cars got faster over the years and ICR2 was based on 1995 physics the lap times I am accomplishing are much faster, yesterday I ran 1m18.4s!
Here is a video if you would like to see my work. I spent 6 months of this and I started with files that someone else had already created the basic track geometry for me.

Great stuff! I've never played ICR2 but maybe one day I'll get around to it
