Trouble running Gp2 in recently acquired computer

Hi there 
I just got this computer for cheap; 2.8Ghz Celeron with 2Gb RAM which is capable of running Win7. I'm trying to get Gp2 to work (using Gp2lap) but I'm hitting problems;
If I run it through DosBox the thing is sloooooooooooow in any setting I've tried; and if I run it directly it cannot find a soundcard and then the game doesn't launch. I still can try installing a Win98 emulation through Virtual PC but I'd like that one to be the last option.
