Performance realism

How can I adjust my performance in qualify or in a race according to the car I'm driving? Right now I tried the Selected Team Power option but it didn't give me much difference in laptimes between a fast and a slow car (e.g. the williams FW15C and the ferrari F93A in 1993 mod).
