Description	: In 1999 CART FedEx Series (Indycar) included in that year's schedule an exhibition race for November 13th, 1999: the Hawaiian Super Prix. That special race would be contested by 12 CART drivers, those placed in the first 12 places in that year's championship, alongside another 4 invited drivers from the series or former CART drivers. The event would be held in an airport in Oahu island, in Hawaii. That American state never held an international motor racing event, and the Hawaiian Super Prix had the pretension to be a so great debut. Offering a prize of US$ 5 million to the race winner, and more US$ 5 millions to be distributed for the other running drivers who would finish the race, and even a prize for a spectator, the event had the promise to be the largest motor racing amount of prize in the History of the 20th century.
The preparations for the non-points paying race was going like planned up to the summer of 1999. However, lack of a main sponsorsip led the giant prizes to be downsized, commercial mistakes like pay-per-view TV broadcasting and poor promotion were enough to harsh the event image just few months before the scheduled date. A Hawaii dock workers' strike just weeks before the event would prove to be fatal for the race, which was cancelled in October 19th, 1999, just 25 days before the race date. Hawaii never again had the chance to held an international event for motor racing.
The 1.8 mile (2.89 kms) non-permanent circuit had its counstruction started, as a new tarmac for some parts of the track, removable concrete walls, grandstands and other facilities was installed during 1999 summer and fall. Even racing drivers had been there for testing, like Mario Andretti and Mauricio Gugelmin. The Kalaeloa Airport circuit would be similar to Cleveland's Burke Lakefront Airport circuit: wide straights, fast 90-degree turns, a tight hairpin after the starting straight, but with two chicanes to break the high speeds.
