Legendarmy Circuit

Many people haven't heard a word about Grand Prix 2. Other have played, and some are extremely fanatic. And of those, most think it doesn't live anymore. Wrong. I'm the last idiot who still makes tracks for this old game.

Bernie Ecclestone, Formula 1's owner, loves to destroy tracks. The Nrburigring Nordschleife, the long Spa, Pescara... disappeared because they were too long and dangerous, i.e. interesting. Brands Hatch and Zandvoort, because of the money. Flat, short, boring tracks appeard everywhere. Others were modified: Monza and Hockenheim turned into chicane-straight tracks, which were a new challange after all, and Silverstone into somemething awful. Nowadays, tobacco-prohibition in Europe is moving races to other continents, especially unequal "emerging markets" in Asia and Africa. You see Sepang, Shanghai or Bahrein and you understand: new tracks SUCK.

Some tracks still keep their soul, modified or not. This track combines the best corners of the best F1 tracks that are still in the calendar: Monaco, Silverstone, Monza, Spa-Francorchamps and Suzuka. The legend-army.

Legendarmy includes the first chicane of Monza, the modified Club corner, and the slowest corners of the season. Ironic, issn't it? That's because I like overtaking points, not only dangerous corners. And the general speed of the track makes La Rascasse and Loews even more shocking, and it causes problems with the car setup.

Well, let's make a lap. little straight... and what is that fast esse with big slopes? It's not in any f1 track! That's right. I put it there because I don't like straights very much (Eucapino has one and I hate it right now). The esse makes the start more dangerous, and it doesn't change the speed. Little straight and CHICANE! Do not accelerate yet, it's Monza's 1990s double chicane. I strongly reccomend you to follow the cc-line. If you didn't overtake somebody here, your gearbox setup is wrong; this is the fastest part of the track.

As you may see, this chicane goes to the right, not left. Unlike Ultima-Track, I flipped some corners, to change things a little and confuse you. Bended straight, and the Pouhon corner, flipped. Be careful with the first kerb, it's very high. Then the Suzuka Spoon, also flipped. Watch out the tricky exit. Mid-sized straight, and the 130-R to the left, as usual. Do not go too fast, or your team will make you pay the car!

The following straight widens, so if you another car is near you, throw a coin and choose a place to turn, because there it comes the Club 90. The exit is dangerous again. Then a pretty long straight... St. Devote to the left! BRAKE! and don't crash against the wall. Then, before you breathe, BRAKE and TURN! La Rascasse is VERY slow, especially with less vertical wings. And then... Loews! You may want to use the "180 turn gear", it works! Then comes the normal Portier to the tunnel.

Now the best part of the track: Eau Rouge flipped! If you can make if flat out, you have too much downforce; if you want to make good times, Eau Rouge has to feel dangerous. Then a long straight... NO! The exit of the Suzuka esses are waiting for you! The turn to the left is incredibly slow, and the exit very fast. The car setup should let you take the exit flat out, going all over the exiting kerb. Then a little esse and the Parabolica. It's slower than in Monza (low wings make it dangerous in Italy. Here, as the rear wing is around 5 points, it would be too easy). Then the Woodcote-style starting grid, and the lap is finished. My record is 2:17, but I'm not too much good at driving. A cc-line would help a lot.

There is a strange bug: if you want to analyse your lap performance, you will... until the Suzuka esse exit! The exit and the Parabolica don't apperar in the graphics, the line disappears! No words...

Good luck!

Thanx to Geoff Crammond and Paul Hoad, and every and each person that has ever played an edited gp2.

If your computer explodes, or if your car is destroyed in St. Devote or Eau Rouge, don't blame me, it was YOUR fault. This track and me aren't Microprose products.
